1. Vouguinha River Beach (Calde, Viseu)

To reach the beach, take secondary roads from Viseu. These are well signposted, leading to a parking area next to the bathing zone. On weekends in July and August, arrive early, as spaces fill up quickly due to the local influx. For convenience, the beach offers a support bar with a terrace. It is ideal for light meals, ice cream, or a drink while watching children swim. For a more substantial meal, take a short trip to Calde village or the outskirts of Viseu. Here, traditional restaurants serve the famous Beira-style roast veal. Besides swimming and sport fishing in designated areas, the Vouguinha River is perfect for riverside walks. Ethnography enthusiasts can also visit the Casa de Lavoura Ethnographic Museum in Calde, which preserves the memories of past agricultural life.

2. Nandufe River Beach (Tondela)

Bathed by the Dinha River in Nandufe parish, this river beach combines fresh inland waters with rural heritage. The old, restored watermill stands out and frames the landscape. It reminds visitors of when water powered the region’s cereals. The beach features a small sandy area and a natural pool. There is a bar service with a terrace above the leisure area. For an al fresco lunch, a public barbecue and shaded picnic park offer stone tables for gatherings. The location, next to the Ecopista do Dão, makes this a popular stop for cyclists and hikers. You can also visit the Terras de Besteiros Museum in Tondela or the nearby Serra do Caramulo.

3. Sangemil River Beach (Lajeosa do Dão, Tondela)

Sangemil River Beach offers more than just sunbathing. It is in the Dão River valley, near the famous Caldas de Sangemil. The clear blue river, golden sand, and deep green alder and willow trees create a striking scene.

Access is easy from the EN230, and the complex has an organised, well-equipped car park. The design considers accessibility, allowing people with reduced mobility to reach the water easily. On the beach, vacationers find an excellent bar and restaurant with a large terrace serving full meals and snacks. In Lajeosa do Dão, just a few meters away, small restaurants also serve home-style cuisine. For younger children, there is a playground with swings and slides. Adults can book treatments or relaxation circuits at the Sangemil Thermal Spa. The beautiful Roman bridge over the Dão River is right by the beach. 4. São Sebastião River Beach / Nespereira (Cinfães)

The beach is wild but has infrastructure in high season, including restrooms and a kiosk for drinks and snacks. For full meals, go to Nespereira or Cinfães. Enjoy roast kid goat cooked in a wood-fired oven or Arouquesa beef steak. This region is a paradise for adventure tourism. Several marked trails cross villages, medieval bridges, and shepherds’ paths. Adventurers can try canyoning nearby or visit Portas de Montemuro for stunning views at the mountain’s top.

5. Trabulo River Beach (Sátão)

Trabulo River Beach sits on the left bank of the Vouga River. It lies between the parishes of Ferreira de Aves and Romãs. It is one of the most complete and well-maintained resorts in Viseu. Dense pine forests hide it. It opens onto a vast stretch of water complemented by a large sandy area, a grassy area, and excellent safety. There is constant lifeguard surveillance all season.

Access is easy and fully paved. The area has a large, organised parking lot for many visitors, even on weekends. The beach has excellent restaurants, including a snack bar. A large picnic area is perfect for group lunches in the shade of pine trees. Trabulo’s main asset is its wide range of recreational activities. Pedal boats and paddleboards let you explore the Vouga River. There is a playground, a safe pool for babies, and sports fields for volleyball and beach soccer. Nearby, visit the Sanctuary of Our Lord of the Ways or the Convent of Santa Eufémia in minutes.
