Why Robinhood Stock Jumped 8% as Bitcoin Cleared $80,000
Robinhood Markets (HOOD) stock climbed 8% to $112.09 on August 25, adding roughly $8 to its share price in a single session as bitcoin broke through $80,000 for the first time since mid-May. The world’s largest cryptocurrency touched an intraday high near $81,238 before easing back, extending a rally that began the previous week after the Treasury Department moved to support long-duration bonds and President Trump pushed Congress to pass crypto legislation.
Robinhood stock trades as a high-beta proxy for that kind of move. Its brokerage sits on the other side of every crypto trade retail customers place, so a bitcoin breakout shows up in Robinhood’s share price before it shows up in an earnings report. Coinbase, Strategy and the crypto miners all moved the same day, a sign the rally is a sector story more than a Robinhood-specific one.
But CFO Shiv Verma flagged a wrinkle on the Q2 earnings call held July 29, weeks before this move. Asked about July’s trading trends, he said: “In terms of crypto, it’s probably a little bit slower than what we saw in Q2. And so it’s early in the month, but that’s what we’re seeing to start.” That comment lands on Robinhood’s own crypto volumes, the metric that actually feeds transaction revenue, not on the price of bitcoin itself.
That gap matters. The stock is repricing on bitcoin’s dollar value while the business that monetizes crypto activity told investors, weeks earlier, that its own volumes were cooling. Robinhood’s July metrics report, published August 11, showed crypto notional volume down 33% month over month to $10.9 billion even as equity and options volumes held near Q2’s pace. A rally built on the coin’s price without a matching lift in the transaction volume Robinhood actually earns fees on is a narrower foundation than an 8% single-day move suggests.
Robinhood stock got paid for bitcoin’s move on August 25. The next test is whether trading activity on its own platform starts paying for it too.
Robinhood Stock’s Target Gap Just Hit Its Tightest Point in a Year
Analysts carry 18 buys, 4 outperforms, 4 holds, 1 underperform and 1 sell on Robinhood stock as of August 25. The mean target of $120 sits just 7% above the new $112 close.
That gap has moved dramatically over the past year. Coverage on Robinhood stock grew from 20 analysts in June 2025 to 26 today, and the mean target climbed from $74 to $120 over that stretch. But the more revealing shift sits in the middle. When the stock cratered to $69 by the end of March 2026, down from $143 the previous September, analysts barely moved their target off $118. That pushed the target-to-close ratio to 170%, the widest gap the table shows, as analysts stayed bullish through the crash rather than chasing the price down.
Since then, the stock has clawed back to $112 and the target has risen alongside it, so the ratio has come back down to 107%, close to where it stood in September 2025 before the drawdown began. The Street isn’t newly excited about Robinhood stock this week. It’s catching up to a price that already caught up to its own target.
TIKR Values Robinhood Stock at $247, Pricing In a Decade of Platform Growth
TIKR’s mid case model values Robinhood stock at $247 by December 2030, implying 120% total return from the current price of $112, or 20% annualized over the next 4.3 years.
A 20% annualized return stretched over more than four years is a growth-stock rate, not the kind most established financial platforms command.
The path to $247 runs through Robinhood’s own crypto, options and prediction market volumes catching up to bitcoin’s price, not bitcoin’s price alone. The Street’s $120 mean target already prices in some of that recovery, well short of TIKR’s case, which counts on growth extending years past this week’s rally.
